Special Counsel to the Chairman of the FCC for External Affairs, Gigi Sohn, to Address OneCommunity Annual Meeting
—CLEVELAND, Ohio, August 13, 2014—Gigi Sohn, Special Counsel for the Chairman of the FCC for External Affairs, will be awarded the OneCommunity Broadband Hero Award and will deliver the keynote address at the company’s upcoming Annual Meeting, September 10 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Victory Center, 7012 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland.
According to OneCommunity CEO Lev Gonick, “Gigi is being recognized for the body of her work, which, combining scholarship with activism and policy work with a commitment to an open Internet, has exerted a far-reaching influence on our times.”
Prior to her current position, Sohn was President and Co-Founder of Public Knowledge, a non-profit Washington, D.C.-based public interest group involved in intellectual property law, competition, and choice in the digital marketplace and an open standards/end-to-end internet. She has served on the Board of the Telecommunications Policy Research Conference and the Advisory Board of the Center for Copyright Information. She was appointed by former President Clinton in 1997 to serve as a member of his Advisory Committee on the Public Interest Obligations of Digital Television Broadcasters.
Sohn has also held five academic positions including teaching at Cardozo Law School, University of Melbourne Graduate School of Law and Georgetown University (undergraduate). She was a Fellow at University of Southern California Annenberg Program and Senior Adjunct Fellow at Silicon Flatirons Center at University of Colorado Law School.
