OneCommunity Announces Liaison with CWRU School of Medicine

Amy Sheon, Director of the CWRU Urban Health Initiative, will coordinate activities to raise awareness of the importance of broadband networks for community health

Cleveland, Ohio—April 9, 2014—OneCommunity announces a new collaboration with Case Western Reserve University’s School of Medicine’s Urban Health Initiative (UHI).  The two organizations will work to help leverage the organization’s fiber optic broadband digital infrastructure to improve the health of the local population.

Dr. Amy Sheon, Director of the School’s Urban Health Initiative, will lead this effort on behalf of the CWRU School of Medicine.  Plans include the development of a year-long set of activities around the theme of “Digital Cleveland.”

Activities will include hosting local and national speakers who will focus on how “big data” can support  the population health management activities required for Accountable Care Organizations, created in conjunction with the Affordable Care Act. Other activities may include a tour of local entrepreneurship accelerator programs and a challenge seeking entrepreneurs who will develop applications that leverage telepresence and big data for health improvement.

“I’ve often thought that OneCommunity is one of Northeast Ohio’s best kept secrets, and a secret that needs to be shared,” said Sheon. “Helping OneCommunity leverage its broadband network infrastructure to improve health in the local population dovetails perfectly with the mission of the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine’s Urban Health Initiative.  I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to spur innovation that takes advantage of this tremendous resource.”

“We’re excited about this opportunity to collaborate with Amy and the CWRU Urban Health Initiative to explore and identify where OneCommunity’s world-class, ultra-high speed network can catalyze changes in our community’s health and wellness strategies.”  said Lev Gonick, OneCommunity CEO.
