OneCommunity to Present Jeanette Grasselli Brown with Lifetime Ambassador’s Award
CLEVELAND, Ohio, August 27, 2014—OneCommunity, a Northeast Ohio ultra-high-speed-broadband provider, will present the Lifetime Ambassador’s Award to Dr. Jeanette Grasselli Brown at the organization’s upcoming Annual Meeting, September 10.
“As a Board Member, advocate and highly respected community leader, Jenny has been instrumental in the progress that OneCommunity has made in its first decade of existence in this community,” according to OneCommunity CEO Lev Gonick. “She is an inspiration and a visionary who cares deeply about the region and its digital future.”
Since retiring as Director of Corporate Research for BP America, Brown has devoted her efforts to making Ohio a better place to live. In addition to her extended service on the OneCommunity Board, she has previously sat on the boards of the Martha Holdings Jennings Foundation and the National Inventors Hall of Fame. She is past Chair and now Emerita of boards including: Great Lakes Science Center, Ideastream, College Now Greater Cleveland (formerly Cleveland Scholarship Program), Friends of EPrep Schools (now Breakthru) and the Ohio Board of Regents. She currently sits on the boards of the Musical Arts Association, The Cleveland Clinic, Chagrin Arts and Cleveland Hungarian Development.
Brown served as a White House appointee on the Joint High Level Advisory Panel assessing US/Japan science and technology. The past chair of the U.S. National Committee for the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), she was a member of the Visiting Committee for the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the Advisory Committee for Chemistry of the National Science Foundation and the Chemical Sciences and Technology Board of the National Research Council, USA. She was also the National President of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy, Chair of the Analytical Division, American Chemical Society and international editor of Vibrational Spectroscopy.
The recipient of the Garvan Medal of the American Chemical Society, an annual award presented to the outstanding American woman chemist, she was the first woman elected to the Ohio Science and Technology Hall of Fame; was selected International Scientist of the Year and named the Theophilus Redwood Lecturer of the Royal Society of Chemistry, U.K. in addition to numerous other awards and honors.
A native of Cleveland with a deep commitment to her Hungarian family heritage, Brown graduated Summa Cum Laude from Ohio University, is the recipient of a Master of Science degree from Case Western Reserve University and holds 13 honorary degrees. She has one patent, 80 publications and has authored nine books in the field of vibrational spectroscopy.
